I’ve been to many places generally considered dangerous–Somaliland, Syria, Iran–yet I’ve come through just fine and made lots of great friendships on the road.
Personally, I always return from my travels having learned something of value from the country, its people and about myself. That is part of the pleasure of traveling. I can relate to #5 on Sean’s list. Putting myself in unfamiliar territory and being able to adapt only enhances the experience for me. And soon it is not so unfamiliar.
